Supervision

At Calming Waves, we view clinical supervision as a supportive process in which social workers and helping professionals can talk about the work they are doing. We encourage sharing reflections from experiences encountered as this fosters learning and skill development. Supervision with Calming Waves provides an opportunity to share your work and get an objective opinion, thoughts and ideas about the challenges, dilemmas and struggles experienced in the work.

We offer both individual supervision and group supervision. In supervision, we provide a space to explore:

• Linking theory to practice

• Casework and talking about challenging situations

• The impact of the work on you personally

• Professional ethical questions, moral dilemmas and any other issues arising in practice

• Coping with organisational change

• Team dynamics and difficulties within teams

• Leadership, managing change and fostering high performing teams

 

Through talking about the work, practitioners can decrease burnout and vicarious trauma as well as increase professional skills, competence, capacity, and confidence. Engaging in supervision with Calming Waves can increase positive outcomes for the people with whom you as a social worker or helping professional work.

Supervision provided by Calming Waves assists social workers to meet their CPD and accreditation requirements set by the AASW.

Mentoring

​

Mentoring is different from Supervision. Mentoring for social workers and helping professionals focuses more on career and skill development.

​

At Calming Waves, we view the role of a mentor as someone to journey alongside a mentee in their career, offering support, career progression strategies, tips, encouragement, and understanding.
