How does counselling/therapy work?Counselling and therapy involve talking about your thoughts, feelings and life experiences. This requires developing a trusting therapeutic relationship that is free of judgement. The role of the therapist is to listen to you and use a range of psychological strategies to help you. These psychological strategies used at Calming Waves are highly researched, have proven effectiveness and endorsed for use by Medicare Australia.

How many sessions will I need? Each person’s situation is different and the number of sessions will depend on what you want help with. Some people only need a couple of sessions and others may wish to keep working together for a number of months. Typically, the first 2-3 sessions are spent getting to know you and understanding the problem you are coming with in detail. Recommendations are then made for you to consider and for us to make a plan together.
